Miss Kate Weller
We are very pleased to announce that our newest team member has arrived in Cooroy and, along with her canine companion Rudy, is settling nicely into our somewhat warmer than Victorian winter. Kate will be available for consultations on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays from Monday 8th June.
Kate grew up in the border town of Echuca on the Murray River in Victoria. She graduated from Flinders University in South Australia in 2014 with a Bachelor of Medical Science (Vision Science) & Master of Optometry (incorporating Ocular Therapeutics). She spent 5 years working in the Central Goldfields region of Victoria before moving to Cooroy.
Kate finds the diversity of optometry practice and that of her patients exciting. She is always up for a challenge and enjoys working with children's vision, myopia control, contact lenses and dry eye. Applying her ocular therapeutics qualification with glaucoma co-management, anterior eye disease and foreign body removal is another area of keen interest for this enthusiastic young professional.
Outside of work Kate enjoys an active lifestyle involving a multitude of sporting activities and time exploring the Sunny Coast with her furry pal Rudy.
Ms Heather McLeod
Heather graduated from Queensland University of Technology in 1980 after which she acquired a diversity of experience including working in many regional locations in Australia & in the United Kingdom ranging from traditional Optometry to Occupational Health & Safety in the mines to Indigenous Community Health with the National Trachoma Scheme.
Heather commenced practice in Cooroy in 1997, initially part-time, but as Cooroy continued to grow, so has the practice. To help meet this increasing need, in late 2007 Heather invited another Sunshine Coast optometrist, Jennifer Currie, to join her as a business partner.
Heather has a passion for behavioural optometry. She is a founding member of the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO) & a long-time member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD). As such, a large part of her practice has been in the area of paediatric vision care including the assessment & treatment of learning-related vision problems & binocular vision dysfunction.
Heather completed her Graduate Certicate in Ocular Therapeutics with Queensland University of Technology. She is qualified to prescribe a range of topical ocular pharmaceuticals for treatment of eye disease. She has developed a special interest in the treatment of dry eye conditions.
Now a proud grandmother to two lovely grandchildren, since mid-2019 Heather has stepped back in the practice & signficantly reduced her consulting time to be with her growing extended family & to travel Australia & the world with her husband when that is again possible, post COVID-19.
